Zepeda Vs. Farmer II: No More Controversy – Just Pure Action!

WBC interim lightweight champion William Zepeda defends against Tevin Farmer this Saturday, March 29th, in a 12-round rematch, live on DAZN in Cancun, Mexico. Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) already beat Farmer (33-7-1,8 KOs) on Latino Night on November 16th in Riyadh last year, but Golden Boy Promotions decided to run it back due to the match being close. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. ET on DAZN.
Zepeda beat Farmer by a 10-round split decision, but he was knocked down in the fourth round by a left hand from the 34-year-old and took a lot of shots in the fight. The Mexican brawler couldn’t put Farmer away in the later rounds when he appeared to have him fatigued from the pace and his fierce body attack.
12 Rounds Now
The rematch is for 12 rounds this time, which should play to Zepeda’s style because he Farmer exhausted in the later rounds. With there being two more rounds, that’ll work well for Zepeda if he can push the fight at a fast pace like last time.
Some fans believe the true reason the rematch is happening is that Zepeda’s handlers didn’t feel he was ready to challenge WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson for his title yet. So, they decided to set up a rematch, hoping Zepeda, 28, will perform better.
If Zepeda struggles again, Golden Boy may need to forget about matching him against Shakur and focus on going after the IBF title.
To have a chance against the mover, Stevenson, Zepeda would need to change his style because he’ll never get a chance to stand close and throw to the body against him. Shakur moves too much for that style to work against him.
That style of fighting will never be a good one for the way Zepeda fights because he is a volume puncher who requires his opponents to be stationary. Entertainment-wise, Zepeda is far more exciting to watch compared to Shakur, but he’s not built for that amateur style that he uses.
