De La Hoya: Ortiz Jr. Vs. Spence At Cowboys Stadium?

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya says he wants to put together a fight between Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Errol Spence for the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. De La Hoya feels that the two fighters will sell out the 80,000-seat Cowboy’s Stadium.
Oscar points out that Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs) is coming off of back-to-back grueling fights against former WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on February 22nd and Serhii Bohachuk last October. He says those types of fights can be tough on a fighter.
Dallas Homecoming
As such, De La Hoya wants to have Ortiz Jr. return to Dallas for a homecoming party against a top 10 contender and then target a WBC and WBO 154-lb champion Sebastian Fundora and Terence Crawford if he returns to the weight class after his fight with Canelo Alvarez at 168.
If De Hoya can negotiate a fight between the inactive Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) for Vergil Jr’s WBC interim 154-lb title for his homecoming event in Dallas, it would be huge. That would be the ideal setup for Ortiz Jr. to prepare for his title shot against Fundora or Crawford. Errol hasn’t fought since his ninth-round knockout loss to Crawford in 2023.
“Vergil is coming off two tough fights [Serhii Bohachuk and Israil Madrimov], which can be tough on the body as well and tough on the mind,” said promoter Oscar De La Hoya to Fighthype about Vergil Ortiz Jr.
“I’m thinking about doing a homecoming party for him in Dallas and fight a top 10 guy. Then go after Fundora and then go after Crawford after he comes back down to 154 after he fights Canelo at 168.
“There’s a lot of options out there for Vergil. I’m excited. Imagine if we can put together a Vergil-Spence fight at Dallas Stadium at the Cowboys Stadium. That would sell out the place. I think that’s something to consider as well. There’s some good options for Vergil.” said De La Hoya.
