Caleb Plant Says Edgar Berlanga Can Get It Whenever He Wants

Caleb Plant was present Saturday night for the Mikaela Mayer versus Sandy Ryan match at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. A match he said he enjoyed, and he agreed with the unanimous decision being awarded to Mayer. Plant is preparing for his next match set to be scheduled for May 31st. He hasn’t fought since last September when he defeated the then- undefeated Trevor McCumby.
When asked about his upcoming bout, Plant responded by saying, “We’re working on that now, hopefully will be making an announcement next week and stay tuned.” When pressed on who the possible opponents could be, he smiled and said, “Stay tuned.” Many believed a fight with Edgar Berlanga would be imminent as there has been much back-and-forth verbal between the two.
The most recent and notable would be on March 15th when Berlanga called out Plant after defeating Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz. He led a small chant of “F*ck Plant.” However, it appears Berlanga is now changing course and is instead pursuing a match with Jaime Munguia. He’s said publicly a match between him and Munguia would be a big fight. Mexico versus Puerto Rico. Munguia is scheduled to fight on the Canelo Alvarez versus William Scull card in a rematch against Bruno Surace on May 3rd.
When asked about a potential fight between him and Berlanga in the near future, Plant said, “Whenever he wants, whenever he want, I aint’ hard to find. Yeah, I ain’t hard to find.” Due to the bad blood between the two, there is much fan interest in a potential fight between Plant and Berlanga. Both have fan followings after headlining matches with Canelo. They are household names and, if marketed correctly, could generate a big fight.
Plant earned the respect of the Mexican fan base after his valiant efforts against Canelo and Benavidez. He has the warrior spirit they love, and it was evident in his entertaining fight against McCumby when they cheered him on en route to his technical knockout victory. The Plant-McCumby fight occurred during Mexican Independence weekend on the undercard of Canelo-Berlanga.
Plant has a fan-friendly style, and Berlanga has seventeen 1st round knockouts. They would produce an action-packed fight with a storyline that traces back to May 4, 2024, when the bad blood began. Both were present for the Canelo-Munguia weigh-in, and they had an altercation whereby Plant called Berlanga out to a fight.
Berlanga stated he was to face Canelo in September and could then face Plant afterward. Plant kept pressing him for the fight, and Berlanga stated he would knock him out. Since then, they’ve been going at each other on social media, in interviews, and anywhere they get a chance. Their bad blood won’t be resolved until they meet in the square circle. The back-and-forth will continue until that day comes.
