Caleb Plant Vs. Jose Armando Resendiz And Jermall Charlo Vs. Thomas LaManna Headline May 31st PBC Championship Boxing Prime Video Card

It’s now official that Caleb Plant will defend his WBA interim 168-lb strap against Jose Armando Resendiz in the main event, and Jermall Charlo will come out of mothballs to fight the capable Thomas  LaManna on May 31st, live on PBC Championship Boxing Prime Video in an event that starts at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

Road to a Super Fight

Plant and Jermall are taking easy showcase fights to get them ready to fight each other. The idea is for them to look like pure gold, beating their low-level opponents to whet the appetite of fans, and then set up a PPV clash between them later this year. Plant vs. Charlo is still NOT a great fight for pay-per-view. It’s more focused on fans who remember these two when they were at the top of their game.

While Plant vs. Rosendiz and Charlo vs. LaManna is technically not a PPV card, fans would still need to have a Prime membership on Amazon to see the May 31st event. That membership costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually, so it’s NOT free. If fans really like the matchups, they’ll spring for it.

The only problem is that these two fighters are considered terrible mismatches with no hope of being competitive. It’s understandable why the 35-year-old former two-division world champion Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) is choosing to fight LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs), considering that he’s ONLY fought once since 2021.

With that kind of inactivity, Jermall needs a tune-up because he’s been out of the ring for too long, and he’s not exactly lived a spartan lifestyle all those years. You’d like to think that Charlo has been training for years, staying active, but sadly, he hasn’t.

Tune-Up Time

The one to criticize here is the former IBF super middleweight champion Plant because he’s been active and is already coming off a tune-up fight on September 14th last year against Trevor McCumby. Plant doesn’t need another warmup fight. He should be facing a highly ranked contender like Osleys Iglesias, but obviously, we know why he’s not fighting him.

“On May 31, I’m coming to put on a show and leave no doubt that I’m one of the best in the world,” said Plant.

“I know this is going to be a tough fight, but I will prepare as hard as I possibly can to win and dedicate this win to my beloved Mexico,” said Resendiz.
