$2.5 Million Or No Fight: Schofield Camp Accepts Abdullah Mason Bout Offer, Banking On Turki Alalshikh’s Backing Or Jay Prince’s Funds

Floyd Schofield Sr. says his son, lightweight contender Schofield Jr., has been offered a fight against Abdullah Mason next. Schofield Sr. says they “accept,” but the asking price is “$2.5 million.”

He believes they can raise the money because Mason (18-0, 16 KOs) is now with Turki Alalshikh. The 21-year-old just signed as a brand ambassador for Turki’s Ring Magazine. Floyd Sr. says if not Turki, then Jay Prince can pay them the $2.5M his son, Schofield Jr (18-0, 12 KOs), will want.

$2.5M or Nothing

Abdullah Mason’s promoters at Top Rank won’t likely be willing to pay Schofield’s $2.5 million asking. It would come down to Turki or no fight.

“I’m driving real fast, but I had to update you on something before it hit the news or before it hit social media,” said Floyd Schofield Sr. to Thrill Boxing Magazine. “We’ve been offered a fight with Abdullah Mason. Hell, yeah, we accept that. $2.5 million. That’s the price. So, put the money on the wood and it all go good.

“Yesterday’s price ain’t today’s price, baby. Let’s get this money, baby. Yes, we’ll fight that brother. Put the money on the wood. He’s with Turki now and all them. Let’s go. Jay Prince got money. Put that money up if y’all believe in y’all guy,” said Schofield Sr.

Mason isn’t a world champion yet, and even if he were, his challengers likely wouldn’t be getting that kind of money. Mason is ranked #4 WBC and #8 WBO at lightweight. He was recently dropped twice in his fight last year on November 8th against Yohan Vasquez.

Since then, Top Rank has backed Abdullah away from fighting guys with power and has matched him in his last two fights against the weak punchers, Manuel Jaimes and Carlos Ornelas. The latter was recruited for the fight from the super featherweight division.

Schofield is #2 WBA and #11 IBF at lightweight. He missed out on a title shot against WBC 135-lb champion Shakur Stevenson on the February 22nd Riyadh Season card after coming down with a sudden illness.

Shakur’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, dug up the electrician Josh Padley as the replacement. It was a much-criticized move by Hearn to use Padley, but it indicated what Shakur’s career is all about.
