“He Sounds Like A F*** Weirdo”: Thomas LaManna Reacts To Jermall Charlo’s Derogatory Remarks

Jermall Charlo trashed his tune-up opponent today, Thomas LaManna, repeatedly calling him a “bum” and getting him visibly upset during the virtual press conference to promote their 10-round fight on PBC on Prime Video on May 31st at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
LaManna, 33, was low-key during the virtual press conference, but Charlo chose to insult him by labeling him as a “bum.” It didn’t make sense to insult him because he’s not being brought in as a top-tier contender. If Jermall thinks LaManna is a bum, why did he agree to fight him?
Charlo could have chosen someone good like Osleys Iglesias, and he’d have jumped at the chance to fight him. I don’t think Jermall is physically able to fight someone Iglesias without getting obliterated. He’s lost too much from his game from roughly four years of inactivity.
Lingering Effects?
Charlo didn’t sound or look good today, appearing half asleep throughout. He could barely open his eyes.
He was alarmingly slow today, and he was not sounding the way he used to earlier in his career. It’s unclear whether his fights against Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Juan Macias Montiel had an impact on him, causing him to speak in a slow-motion manner. He sounded groggy.
Hopefully, Jermall can still fight because he might lose to LaManna. In his Charlo’s last fight two years ago against Jose Benavidez Jr, he looked like he was only 60% of what he once was, coming off a 29-month layoff. Now, he’s been off for two years, and he might be at the 50% level. Will that be enough for Jermall to defeat LaManna? Probably, but he’s not going to do well against Plant, Berlanga, or whoever he faces if they’re halfway decent.
The former two-division world champion Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) is coming back after a two-year layoff, and using LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs) to get the rust out to prepare him for a bigger fight.
Thomas LaManna: “It’s the biggest fight of my life. He is who he is, and we’re going to get to it,” said LaManna during today’s PBC virtual press conference. “He was the biggest name and the biggest opportunity. Yeah, why not?
Jermall Charlo: “It’s bigger fish to fry, and I just hope that Thomas can go back to his family happy ever after,” said Jermall when asked what he’s looking forward to after he fights LaManna on May 31st. “I just want the best for you, Thomas. I don’t mean no harm. I’m ready to get back in the ring. Those two years helped me. Those two years made me stronger.
LaManna: “I’m not letting homey get inside my head right now. He sounds like a f**** weirdo. Dude, like, chill.”
Jermall: “Make me chill.”
LaManna: “Make me shut-up then.”
Jermall: “You a f*** bum.”
LaManna: “What are you talking about. Shut up.”
