Ryan Garcia Vs Devin Haney 2 Is A Fight That Is No Longer In Demand

After producing a dramatic first fight, both Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney delivered underwhelming performances at the Fatal Fury: City of Wolves event, and now the potential rematch between Garcia and Haney is a fight that has lost its public appeal.
The Fatal Fury was setup to be a prelude to the highly anticipated rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. Unfortunately, both fighters didn’t look sharp, and now the excitement that was built around a potential Garcia vs Haney 2 bout is diminishing.
The pageantry involved with the Fatal Fury: City of Wolves was truly immaculate, but the action inside the ring didn’t live up to the hype. Out of the three star boxers who were featured in the highly publicized triple-header, Teofimo Lopez was the only one who posted a solid performance.
In the second main event of the triple-header, former two-weight world champion Devin “The Dream” Haney faced the former unified super-lightweight world champion Jose Ramirez. This was Haney’s first bout since his April 2024 clash with Ryan Garcia.
In his fight against Ramirez, Haney used frantic-looking lateral movement throughout the 12-round contest. Nicknamed “The Dream,” Haney was putting the crowd to sleep as he threw one punch at a time and then ran around the ring to avoid getting hit.
Jose Ramirez was constantly pressing forward, but he didn’t have the foot speed required to successfully cut the ring off. At the conclusion of the dull 12-round bout, Devin Haney was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
CompuBox has been utilized in the sport of boxing for the past 40 years, and since its inception, the Haney vs Ramirez bout set a record as it placed fourth all-time for the least amount of punches landed in a 12-round fight. Haney landed 70 punches, and Ramirez landed 40.
After a non-eventful Haney vs Ramirez bout, fight fans swore the Ryan Garcia vs Rolly Romero match would be the fight of the night. Garcia got off to a good start as he was using his feints and connecting with the jab.
Early in the second round, Romero landed a double left hook that sent Garcia down to the canvas. Garcia got up and was able to survive and make it out of the second round.
For the remainder of the fight, Garcia seemed hesitant in regards to attacking on the offensive end. Rolly Romero proceeded to dictate the pace of the bout, and at the conclusion of the 12-round contest, Rolly Romero won by way of unanimous decision.
With Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) losing his fight, and Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) winning his bout in lackluster fashion, it is safe to say no one wants to see a Haney vs Garcia sequel. So the question is, if they don’t fight each other, what’s next for Haney and Garcia?
For Devin Haney, the 147-pound weight class may not be the best fit for him, so with that being said, he may need a familiar opponent such as Teofimo Lopez or Rolly Romero. As for Ryan Garcia, he needs to regain his credibility. Therefore, he should get a tune-up fight and then pursue a rematch against Rolly Romero.
