Boxing Results: Caleb Plant Falls To Jose Resendiz By Split Decision As Jermall Charlo Dominates Co-Main Event

Former IBF World Super Middleweight champion and current WBA interim super middleweight champion Caleb ‘Sweethands’ Plant (23-3, 14 KOs) lost by 12-round split decision to Jose Armando ‘Toro’ Resendiz (16-2, 11 KOs) in the main event on Saturday night at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
In the first two rounds, Plant outworked Resendiz. In the third round, Resendiz came back well, rocking Plant with a right on the chin. In the fourth, it was close with Resendiz taking it.
In the sixth round, a clash of heads. In the final minute, Resendiz hurt Plant with a right to the chin. In the eighth round, Resendiz was warned twice for using his head by referee Harvey Dock. Resendiz came back with a flurry of punches, hurting Plant, who keeps pulling him into a clinch.

In the ninth and tenth rounds, Resendiz goes to the body and looks ahead at the end of the round.
In the eleventh round, Resendiz opens a cut on the right eyebrow of Plant. In the final seconds, Plant rocked Resendiz with a right on the chin. In the twelfth and final round, Resendiz seemed to have an edge.
Scores 116-112 Resendiz, 115-113 Plant, and 116-112 Resendiz.
In the co-main event, former IBF junior middleweight champion and WBC World 160-lb champ Jermall Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) stopped Thomas ‘Cornflake’ LaManna (39-6-1, 18 KOs) after the fifth round, having scored three knockdowns in a scheduled 10 rounds.
In the first round, Charlo drew blood from the nose of LaManna. In the third round, Charlo landed an overhand right and dropped LaManna for an 8-count. In the fourth round, Charlo again knocked LaManna down for another 8-count. In the fifth round, another knockdown with LaManna bleeding badly from the nose. The referee called a stop to the fight.
Middleweight Yoenli Hernandez (8-0, 7 KOs) defeated Kyrone ‘Shut it Down’ Davis (19-4-1, 6 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous decision.
In the second round, Hernandez dropped Davis for an 8-count. The third through the sixth, Hernandez gave the tough Davis a beating.
In the ninth round, Davis fights back, trying to go the distance. In the tenth and final round, Davis asks Hernandez, “Hit me, hit me!”
The scores were 100-89, 100-89, and 100-89.
Super bantamweight Carl Martin (26-0, 20 KOs) defeated Francisco ‘Rayto’ Pedroza Portillo (19-14 -2, 11 KOs) by an eight-round unanimous decision.
The scores were 78-73, 78-73, and 79-72. Robert Hoyle was the referee.
Light welterweight Justin Cardona (10-1, 5 KOs) won an eight-round split decision over Elijah ‘The Bully’ Williams (10-2, 4 KOs). The scores were 75-77, 79-72, and 77-74. Mark Nelson was the referee.
Junior middleweight Cristian Cangelosi (11-0, 5 KOs) won a six-round majority decision over southpaw Samuel ‘El Macho’ Figueroa (13-3, 6 KOs). Robert Hoyle was the referee.
Super middleweight John ‘Candyman’ Easter (9-0, 7 KOs) defeated Andres Martinez (5-4, 3 KOs) by a six-round unanimous decision.
The scores were 60-54, 60-54, and 60-54. Jimmy Lennon, Jr. was the ring announcer.
