Canelo Alvarez Dream: Hamzah Sheeraz’s Path To A Mega-Fight Hinges On Beating Edgar Berlanga Next Week

The buzz for the Edgar Berlanga vs. Hamzah Sheeraz is still only moderate for their event next week on July 12th at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City. It wasn’t a good sign that Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) took to the streets of New York, stopping people and asking if they knew who Berlanga was. None of them did.

Unsold Tickets: Fight Concern

Both fighters need to work hard this week to create more interest in their event. There are still tons of unsold tickets for the Berlangs vs. Sheeraz event on Ticketmaster. Looking at the available seats, it’s almost all blue, showing numerous unsold tickets.

Canelo Shot For Sheeraz

Berlanga-Sheeraz is fighting in a WBC super middleweight title eliminator in the 12-round headliner on DAZN PPV. Turki Alalshikh mentioned that he would be upset if Sheeraz was stopped in this fight because he had “big plans” for him.

He’s the one who has a chance of fighting Canelo Alvarez in February if he wins. If Berlanga wins, the most he can hope for is a fight against Jermall Charlo. Fans don’t want to see Berlanga fighting Canelo again after the way he fought to survive in a one-sided loss last year. After that non-effort by Berlanga, fans don’t ever want to see him fight Canelo again.

“He’s coming with everything. He’s coming to be the best version of himself that night,” said Edgar Berlanga to DAZN Boxing about Hamzah Sheeraz. “I know what’s coming. I’m not just fighting him. I’m fighting everyone else. Fourteen thousand people, the lights, and I’m in my city.”

Sheeraz Aims For Knockout

Sheeraz is going to be gunning for the knockout against Berlanga because he knows his chances of getting the Canelo fight will increase if he stops Edgar.

“You’re going to have a whole bunch of celebrities getting invited to the fight. It’s going to be a coming-out party for me,” said Berlanga.

The last thing Berlanga should be doing is focusing on who the celebrities will be in the crowd. He needs to focus on trying to win.
