Norman Jr. Vows To Retire Haney On November 22nd

Brian Norman Jr. says it’s time to get Devin Haney “out of the boxing game” when they fight on November 22nd. That was a message of intent. He wants to get rid of Haney once and for all.
He doesn’t like the “Twitter games” that he’s playing. If Norman Jr. knocks out Haney (32-0, 15 KOs), he’s put a crimp in his career.
Devin lost to Ryan Garcia and was equally bad in his last fight in May against Jose Ramirez. Getting crushed by Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) would take a lot of what’s left of his career.
Brian Norman Sr. says he thinks Bill and Devin are trying to get out of the fight, and are going to use the VADA testing as a way to maneuver out of the spot. He thinks they’ll use Norman Jr.’s decision not to start VADA testing now as an excuse to back out.
Earlier today, Devin’s dad, Bill Haney, was pushing for WBO welterweight champion Norman Jr. to be tested with VADA, even while he’s out of the country on vacation. Brian Jr. says he’s going to be on vacation outside of the U.S until the end of July.
Norman Jr. Blasts Haney’s “Mind Games”
“Always mind games. They’re so terrified it’s ridiculous,” said Brian Norman Sr. to MillCity Boxing, talking about Devin and Bill Haney. “They’re trying to find a way out when they get beat up, when he do get knocked out, he’s going to try to find a reason. There always has to be a reason. It’s never, ‘He wasn’t good enough.’ It can’t just be that the other guy was better.”
Turki Alalshikh won’t be happy if Devin pulls out of the Norman Jr fight because he’s counting on this being the co-feature on the David Benavidez vs. Anthony Yarde card in Riyadh.
It’s doubtful whether he would be sympathetic to Devin and Bill’s reason for not going through with this fight. It would look so obvious that they got cold feet. If this were just an easy tune-up like Haney’s last fight against Jose Ramirez, it would be more believable for him to pull out due to his not starting VADA testing early.
“It has to be a reason. ‘He cheated. He spiked his handwraps. He was touched by cream.’ We already know what they’re [Bill and Devin],” said Norman Sr. “They’re scared and trying to get out of this fight like everybody said. They did not want this fight, and it’s clear they didn’t want this fight.”
Turki wanted Haney to fight Norman Jr. Devin wanted to fight Teofimo Lopez, a less dangerous opponent that he had a chance of outboxing. But Turki to pick Norman Jr, that had to have been difficult for Devin and Bill to agree to. But after the Tom and Jerry performance Haney put in against Jose Ramirez on May 2nd, he wasn’t in a strong position to decline the Norman Jr. fight.
“We’re on VADA testing up until we fight Devin Haney. Why would 365 matter to Devin Haney? This morning, he was talking about, ‘Sign up now.’ My son is on vacation until the end of the month. He’s going to be out of the country,” said Norman Jr.
