De La Hoya Predicts “Brutal” KO For Gervonta Davis Vs. Shakur Stevenson In Lightweight Unification

Oscar De La Hoya says he sees Gervonta Davis knocking out Shakur Stevenson in a “Brutal” fashion if two ever meet in a unification fight at lightweight. Davis has got the power to KO Shakur with a single shot. William Zepeda staggered Stevenson with a right hand in their fight on July 12th, and he’s not viewed as a big puncher.
Turki Eyes Davis-Stevenson Unification
Turki Alalshikh is interested in a fight between WBC 135-lb champion Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) and WBA champ Tank Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs). It’s unknown if he can convince Tank to take the fight.
Shakur has been for the fight since he moved up to the lightweight division in 2023. He seems to think that by beating Tank, it’ll validate him, and vault him to the top of the division. Even if Shakur wins, fans would demand he do more than just beat Tank to prove he’s #1.
Davis has lost a lot from his game due to inactivity, weak opposition, and not dedicating himself to his craft over the years. The way Tank looked in his recent 12-round draw against Lamont Roach was nowhere near the fighter he’d been three years earlier.
Tank still has the power to knock out Shakur if he lands, but it’s going to be nearly impossible for him to connect due to the movement that the New Jersey native will be doing.
If Stevenson did win, he would crow about the victory, and tell the fans that this is his prove that he’s #1 at lightweight. The reality is, Shakur would have to beat these fighters to prove he’s #1:
Floyd Schofield
Abdullah Mason
Raymond Muratalla
Andy Cruz
Without beating them, Stevenson would be pretending he’s the best, hoping fans would buy into his talk without him needing to take the risks of actually proving he’s the best.
Davis-Stevenson: De La Hoya’s Brutal Pick
“I’m going to pick Tank to beat Shakur by brutal knockout,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Ring Champs, picking Gervonta Davis to KO Shakur Stevenson if the fight ever happens between them.
