Dillian Whyte Off June 7th Ipswich Card, Aiming For “Big Fight” August Return

Promoter Frank Warren reports that heavyweight Dillian Whyte is off this Saturday’s card on June 7th in Ipswich, England. He says Whyte will return in August in “a big, big fight.” Warren states that Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs) wanted a bigger fight than the one that he would have had if he’d fought on Saturday’s undercard of the Fabio Wardley vs. Justis Huni event on DAZN. Not having Dillian on the card is no loss because he wasn’t expected to fight a live body.

Prioritizing “Big” Fight

It’s unknown who the opponent will be for Whyte, 37, but it’ll likely be someone he has an excellent chance of beating. That would be guys like Derek Chisora, Dave Allen, Jarrell Miller, and Otto Wallin. At this late stage of his career, those would be “big fights” for Whyte. He is too washed to fight against anyone above these low-level heavyweights.

Whyte lacks the talent and the youth to defeat top-five level contenders like Martin Bakole, Zhilei Zhang, Filip Hrgovic, Jared Anderson, or Lenier Pero. Those guys would clean him out, ruining his last shot at getting a lucrative rematch with Anthony Joshua. Even the fringe contenders like Richard Torrez Jr. and Andy Ruiz would be trouble for him.

There are no words to describe how awful Dillian looked in his last fight against 37-year-old Ebenezer Tetteh on December 15th. ‘The Body Snatcher’ Whyte performed like a walking garbage scow. The way Whyte looked in that fight, I don’t know how Anthony Joshua would ever have any interest in fighting him again. AJ would have to be entirely desperate for a win to fight Dillian after that showing.

Off Ipswich Card

“He’s not going to be on the card now. He’s had an opportunity for a big, big fight in August, and we’re looking at the moment to get that over the line. It’s a big, big fight for him,” said promoter Frank Warren to BoxNation, revealing that Dillian Whyte is off this Saturday’s card on June 7th in Ipswich, England.

“So, that’s going to take priority. He wants that. He wants the bigger fight than what he would be getting if he’d be fighting in Ipswich. So, whats going to happen. It’s a really, really big fight, yeah,” said Warren when asked if Whyte’s clash in August will be a ‘World level’ clash.
