Ernesto Mercado’s Calls Out Of Nahir Albright For His Minor Belt

Ernesto Mercado called out Nahir Albright, saying he’d like to take his belt from him. Albright (17-2, 7 KOs) captured the vacant WBC USA Silver Super light welterweight title with his 10-round majority decision win over Kelvin Davis last Saturday in Norfolk, Virginia.

That’s not a major belt that a fighter usually would want to win. Mercado (17-0, 16 KOs) doesn’t need an excuse for being interested in fighting Albright, because his popularity is on the rise after his victory over the previously unbeaten Kelvin.

Mercado Challenges Albright

“I’ll happily and easily take that belt from his Chris Brown looking a**,” said Mercado on social media, calling out Nahir Albright.

It’s unlikely that Albright will accommodate Mercado, because he’s going to want to transmute his victory over Davis into a big payday against a more notable fighter. He won’t get the big names at 135, 140, or 147 to fight him, but he can do better than Ernesto.

Keyshawn Rematch Targeted

Nahir Albright, 29, says he wants a rematch with Keyshawn, whom he lost to in 2023 by a 10-round majority decision. He hurt Davis in the eighth round and dominated the last four rounds. He appeared to have done enough to defeat Keyshawn, but the judges gave it to the Top Rank-promoted fighter.

Afterward, Keyshawn complained when his win was taken away and ruled a no-decision because he had tested positive for a banned substance. He sounded like he’d been wronged by his win being taken away, and said he was going to go buy a “house.” He sounded like he couldn’t understand why his win would be taken away for testing positive for a banned drug. It was weird.

Mercado is fighting a 10-rounder against Jonathan Montrel (19-2, 13 KOs) this Saturday, June 14th, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. That fight is on the undercard of Richardson Hitchins vs. George Kambosos Jr. and will be shown live on DAZN.

Albright’s Newfound Fame

Albright revealing that Keyshawn and Keon Davis had jumped him in his dressing room has given him more fame. It’s not the greatest way of becoming well-known in the boxing world, but it’s worked. The combination of his victory over Davis and claiming that DB3 had attacked him has put him on the map.
