Boxing Results: Jared Anderson Survives Late Scare, Wins Decision Against Kollias

Heavyweight Jared Anderson (17-1, 15 KOs) survived a late scare to win a 10-round unanimous decision over Marios Kollias (12-4-1, 10 KOs) on Friday night in his comeback fight at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.

Anderson, 25, mostly controlled the fight with his jab and right hand against Kollias. However, in the final seconds of the tenth, Kollias came to life, throwing a flurry of shots to Anderson’s head that had him looking shaken as the bell sounded to end the fight.
Although Anderson was victorious, this was more of a loss. He looked tired and out of shape, it seemed like he didn’t want to be there tonight. It was a bad look getting hurt by a guy who shouldn’t have been able to do that to him.
Top Rank is going to have to decide what they want to do with Jared because he doesn’t look like he’s improved since his knockout loss to Martin Bakole last Summer. The way Anderson fought tonight, he’d lost to most of the top 15 heavyweights.
The scores
99-91
99-91
98-92
This was not the kind of performance that Anderson needed to show the fans that he’d come back from his fifth-round knockout loss to Martin Bakole in his previous fight on August 3rd. Anderson was getting hit throughout the fight by Kollias, who set traps and landed big punches. His problem was that he wasn’t throwing enough and allowing Anderson to control the rounds.
The way Jared Anderson looked, I don’t think it was nearly good enough for him to make it back on Top Rank’s main card for his next fight. Fighting on preliminary cards shows how far Jared has fallen since his knockout loss to Bakole, and tonight’s performance did not help him. If anything, it puts Anderson’s career on thin ice with Top Rank.
It’s not just this fight where Jared looked bad. He’d performed poorly in several others, and that’s why it was surprising that Turki Al-Sheikh wanted him on his August 3rd card, fighting Bakole. Hasn’t he been watching Anderson’s fights? It’s prove that even powerful people can buy into the hype.
