Terence Crawford’s Mobility: The Key To Neutralizing Canelo Alvarez, Says Carrington

Bruce Carrington says Canelo Alvarez lacks the footwork to deal with the mobility of Terence Crawford. He believes that Bud (41-0, 31 KOs) will neutralize Canelo’s offense by not being stationary to allow him to get his shots off.

Canelo-Crawford will be fighting in less than two months, on September 13th, in Las Vegas. Crawford will be fighting for the first and possibly the last time at 168 when he challenges Alvarez for his undisputed super middleweight championship.

Crawford’s Mobility Neutralizes Canelo

“I think the footwork isn’t there, and I think the effort for the footwork to be there is being put,” said Bruce Carrington to Fight Hub TV, talking about Canelo Alvarez. “The footwork hasn’t been there as an emphasis in Canelo’s past camps, and I don’t think it will in this fight.”

Alvarez has enough footwork to cut off the ring against runners. We saw that in his fights against William Scull and Caleb Plant. If Crawford chooses to run, Canelo will trap him enough in each round to win a decision.

“Canelo is not a natural boxer. He’s a boxer-puncher, but in terms of using the ring and lateral movement, that’s not his game. He wants to have you right in front of him, and hit you on the arms and hit you do the body. That’s his game. That’s his bread and butter,” said Carrrington.

Canelo can box quite well when he wants to, and he’ll do what he needs to for him to win enough rounds to get the decision against Crawford. There will be a lot of angry fans if this fight turns into a boxing match because Turki Alalshikh has hyped it up.

It’s unclear how long Turki has been watching Crawford fight. Other than his fight against a washed-up Errol Spence, Crawford has never had an exciting fighting style. He’s always been a pure boxer with a Shakur style of fighting. If Turki just started following Crawford’s career when he fought Spence, that explains why he’s so high on him. That was Bud’s only entertaining fight in his career.

Why Crawford Can Win

“You just have to take that away from him. That’s what Bivol did well at and Mayweather did well at. Even William Scull; He could have done that if he had more offense. Those are the main reasons why I think Crawford has a good chance of winning,” said Carrington.

Crawford is going to be booed loudly if he just jabs and moves all night, the way that William Scull was doing. Turki Alalshikh is reportedly paying him $50 million for the Canelo fight.

You’d like to think that Bud would have a conscience and feel guilty if he chooses to move all night. Maybe he doesn’t care. He’ll have his $50 million, and there’s nothing Turki can do about it. He should have known in the first place not to choose Crawford as Alvarez’s opponent.
