Jaron Ennis Captures The Crown

Atlantic City, New Jersey – Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) captured the crown by successfully defeating Eimantas Stanionis (15-1, 9 KOs) in a masterful performance at the iconic Jim Whelan  Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Boots, as lineal champion, now holds the IBF, WBA, and Ring Magazine titles. He hopes to become undisputed champion by going after the other two divisional champions in Mario Barrios, who holds the WBC title, and Brian Norman Jr., who is the WBO champion.

Ennis demonstrated his speed and quickness early, overwhelming Stanionis with a high work rate and easily evading his punches. Stanionis’s output was very anemic as he struggled to land anything of real significance. Eimantas struggled with Jaron’s lateral movement.

Throwing only  185 punches over 6 rounds while Boots threw 424 punches, landing 32.8 percent of his power punches (65/198). It was in the 5th round where Boots began to exert his dominance, landing a fight high 19 punches and giving Stanionis a bloody nose in the process. Then, in the 6th round, he landed a barrage of punches, sending Eimantas to the canvas. At the end of the round,  trainer Marvin Somodio informed the referee he was stopping the fight, preventing any further damage to his fighter.

At the post-fight press conference, Jaron’s father, Derek Ennis, said he agreed with Somodio stopping the fight. He felt Stanionis was taking a lot of punishment and thought Boots would eventually knock him out. Boots also addressed his critics and the rumors that he’s struggling to make weight at 147 pounds. He stated he was at weight as of Tuesday and made weight easy.  With the victory, Boots and Eddie Hearn now appear to aim their efforts towards an undisputed championship run, which could begin against Brian Norman Jr.

Eddie made a pitch for the fight at the presser, stating they could set it up at the Wells Fargo Center sometime in the summer if Norman and his team are willing to accept. Eddie noted that Brian’s last fight was the co-main event on the Mikaela Mayer-Sandy Ryan card at a smaller venue at the Fontainebleau Live Theater and for a significantly lower payday than what Boots had just earned.

If Brian Norman Jr. does decide he wants to fight Boots, he can do so, for a career payday and in front of a larger audience, emphasized Hearn. Ennis believes Norman doesn’t truly want to fight him and simply talks about fighting him on social media for clout. He also made reference to a gym session they had, where he implied he got the better of Norman.  After convincingly defeating Stanionis, Boots now holds the cards and can create a major fight

with whomever is willing to accept the challenge. He’s placed himself atop of the welterweight division.
