“His Chin Has Been Tested”: Ryan Garcia’s Father Doubts Devin Haney’s Chances Against Power-Punching Jose Ramirez

Ryan Garcia’s father, Henry Garcia, has doubts about whether Devin Haney will make it through his fight against Jose Ramirez on the Fatal Fury Times Square event next month on May 2nd in New York City.

Punch Resistance

Henry feels that Haney’s “chin’ failed him in his last fight against Ryan last April, and he thinks it’s a possibility it could happen again when he faces the former WBC and WBA light welterweight champion Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) in their 12-round co-feature bout.

Despite the bad blood they have with Devin over his lawsuit, Henry says he “hopes” he’s made “significant changes” to his game for the Ramirez fight. May 2nd is a mini-tournament, and Haney needs to get through his fight to face Ryan in October if he wins his fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on the card.

Even if Haney does make changes to his game, his punch resistance is still going to be an ongoing problem for him, and it may fail him against Ramirez. This guy isn’t the biggest puncher in the world, but he’s been working on his power game, knowing how vulnerable Haney is upstairs.

“If he outboxes Ramirez, there’s a possibility he’ll survive, but his chin has been tested and you’ve seen the results,” said Henry Garcia to Fight Hub TV, talking about Devin Haney’s fight against Jose Ramirez on May 2nd at Times Square in New York City.

It doesn’t look good for Haney that he’ll get through the Ramirez fight without getting cracked. He’s had a year off to recover from his grueling clash against Ryan, but that might not be enough time.

Chin Doubts

“I’ve always seen Haney as a good fighter, but I always knew from the amateur days that he got rocked with Ryan,” said Henry. “So, if anyone hits him, there might be the same results. Let’s hope he made some significant changes because Ramirez, from what I’m hearing, he’s ready. He’s good to go, and he’s no pushover just like Duarte was no pushover for Ryan. Somebody you have to stay focused on.

“We do know it’s scheduled for October,” said Henry Garcia about the rematch between Ryan Garcia and Haney.
