Two Battles On One Night: Paul Vs. Chavez Jr. And Ramirez Vs. Dorticos Lead DAZN PPV Event

Jake Paul will battle Cruiserweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the 10-round headliner, live on DAZN PPV on Saturday, June 28, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. In the chief support bout, Gilberto Ramirez will defend his WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles against Yuniel Dorticos.

Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) will see what the former WBC middleweight champion Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) has left after 23 years in the pro ranks. Chavez Jr., 29, has looked good lately, winning his last two fights against non-household names. Julio Jr. made a comeback last year after being inactive for three years and looked impressive, beating Uriah Hall by a six-round unanimous decision on July 20, 2024.

The former IBF and WBA cruiserweight champion Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs) has worked his way into the WBA mandatory spot by winning his last three fights. Not young at 39, the Cuba-born Dorticos still possesses a lot of power and technical skills that could give ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez problems.

The two guys that Dorticos has lost to in his career, Mairis Briedis and Murat Gassiev, were big punchers. They had the kind of power that made Dorticos wary of going to war with them. Ramirez (47-1, 30 doesn’t punch like either of those guys. So, there’s a possibility that Dorticos can win if he doesn’t fade late.

Ramirez, 33, has reinvented himself since moving up to the cruiserweight division in 2023. He’s won three fights since moving up, defeating Joe Smith Jr., Arsen Goulamirian, and Chris Billiam-Smith. Zurdo’s last fight against Billiam-Smith last year, on November 16th in Riyadh, was a punishing one for him. He took a lot of heavy punches from the British fighter and was forced to rely on changing angles to win a 12-round unanimous decision.

I’m going against a former champion who conman Canelo couldn’t finish,” said Jake Paul. “Chávez Jr. is Mexican, but I, El Gallo De Dorado, have the will and heart of the great Mexican fighters. On Saturday, June 28, live on DAZN pay-per-view, I will knock out Julio and make Chávez Sr. proud in ways Jr. never has. Another massive event from Most Valuable Promotions, with some Oscar De La Hoya seasoning added to the show. Viva La Puerto Rico.”
