Haney’s Rematch Vision: Ignoring The Ramirez Threat To Chase A PED-Stained Garcia Victory?

Devin Haney said today there are still “question marks” that need to be answered about his previous fight with Ryan Garcia. That’s why he’s chosen to potentially fight Ryan again, provided they both win their respective fights on the Fatal Fury card on May 2nd on DAZN PPV at Times Square in New York City.

“Even Better”?

Haney says he’ll be “even better” after going through the adversity of his loss. That doesn’t sound realistic. With the beating he took from Ryan, the chances are that Devin could crumble on May 2nd in his fight against Jose Ramirez. His chin will fail him.

What Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is alluding to is Kingry’s positive PED test for Ostarine that he was flagged for after he beat him on April 20th last year at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Devin, 26, believes that Garcia wasn’t clean and got a little extra help that enabled him to do what he wouldn’t have been able to if he hadn’t been on it.

If Haney and Garcia don’t win their fights on May 2nd, there won’t be a rematch in October. We’ll never know if he’d have beaten Devin if he’d been clean. Haney is fighting Jose Ramirez on May 2nd in what many view as a 50-50 match. Ryan got a comparatively easy fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in the main event on that card.

Losers’ Bracket

What we could see is Ryan doing his part to get the rematch by destroying Rolly, while Haney fails to do his job by losing to Ramirez. With this being a tournament, Haney would enter the losers’ bracket and wind up facing the loser of the Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. fight. There’s a good chance that Haney could lose to one of them, too, and his career would be in the mud.

“I think that was the proper way to do it to answer the question mark that is still there,” said Devin Haney to Ring Magazine when asked why he chose to go in the direction of a rematch with Ryan Garcia in October.

When Haney remarked about there still being a “question mark” about his loss to Ryan Garcia from last April, the assembled Fatal Fury fighters collectively smiled. They weren’t in agreement with Haney and his “question mark” comment. It’s obvious that they see Devin as still unable to confront the truth about his loss.

“I faced adversity, and I think I’m an even better fighter,” said Devin about his loss to Ryan. “It motivated me to become an even better version of myself, and I’ll show it on May 2nd.”

If this were a movie, Haney would come back “even better’ from loss, and destroy Ramirez to get the big payday that awaits in a rematch with Ryan Garcia. Unfortunately, this is real life, and Devin won’t be a “Better fighter” after having the living daylights beaten out of him last April.

“I was a little unmotivated. I had been at 140 for a long time, and it took a big toll. I take my hat off to Barboza. He’s a great fighter. I’m sure he’ll do well on May 2nd,” said Jose Ramirez, reflecting on his recent loss to Arnold Barboza Jr.

“I’ve been doing this my whole life. I’m 32 years old. I was a 2012 Olympian and a unified world champion. I know what it takes to go out there and be a part of the big fights. I’m excited about this one [Haney]. I’ve put on extra pounds, and I can already see myself being more light on my feet, agile, and more energetic,” said Ramirez.

“He’s quick as s***. He can pop, he can crack, and a lot of experience,” said Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, playing it nice, praising Ryan Garcia.
