Nigel Benn Stunned By Oddsmakers Favoring Chris Eubank Jr. Over Son Conor Ahead Of DAZN PPV Clash

Nigel Benn says he’s “shocked” that the oddsmakers have middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. as the favorite over his son, Conor Benn, for their 12-round fight this Saturday, April 26th, on DAZN PPV at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. Eubank Jr. vs. Benn is priced at $24.99 on DAZN PPV for U.S fans. The UK price is £19.95 or £21.99.

All you need to see is how completely barren of quality names the 28-year-old Conor Benn’s resume is to know why the bettors and fans have Eubank Jr. (35-3, 25 KOs). While his career resume is thin as well, it’s not as bad.

Thin Record

Benn hasn’t performed well in his last two fights against Peter Dobson and Rodolfo Orozco. Neither of those fighters is a top 15 contender, and he struggled against both. Those types of fighters who are quality fighters at 147 would blow away without any problems, but Conor labored against them.

– Chris Algieri
– Adrian Granado
– Samuel Vargas

The inactivity that Benn has had also makes it impossible to pick him over Eubank Jr. He’s only fought three times since 2022, which is a signal that he views his career as a part-time gig. All the money that he’s made fighting lesser opposition has afforded him the luxury of being inactive.

“Delusional” Confidence?

“It makes no difference to me what he does and what he thinks. I really couldn’t care less, because I’m going to come out there with a big right hand to his temple. You can prepare for that,” said Conor Benn to Matchroom Boxing about his plans for his domestic-level scrap against Chris Eubank Jr. this Saturday night in London.

“People go, ‘Where does your confidence come from?’ You can say confidence, borderline delusional. That’s what people say. Is it confidence or borderline delusional? You see where my confidence comes from. Denzel is a phenomenal fighter, the #1 ranked WBO middleweight in the world.”

No one would view Conor as “delusional” if he’d moved up to middleweight and beaten a top contender or two, like Yoenli Hernandez or Troy Isley. Benn hasn’t fought in over a year since his 12-round victory over Peter Dobson, and that’s not the ideal way to go into a fight against Eubank Jr., coming off a 14-month layoff.

“I think what my son said about him and that pace, I don’t see it going past four rounds, and I’m shocked when they’ve got Eubank as the favorite,” said Nigel Benn.
