Eubank Jr. Shuts Down “Irrelevant” Blabbering From Eddie Hearn And Frank Smith, Promises Knockout Of Conor Benn

Chris Eubank Jr. says he was “never” going to let promoter Eddie Hearn open his yap during the final press conference today for his fight against Hearn’s guy, Conor Benn, on Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Eubank Jr. talked over Hearn when he attempted to speak. In what looked like a planned move, Hearn had Matchroom CEO Frank Smith come up on stage to take over the talking for him. Hearn seemed to be under the impression that Chris Jr. would allow Smith to speak. He didn’t. He talked over Frank, filibustering when he tried to have his say.
Hearn Hushed
Eubank Jr. said his decision to shut Hearn and Smith down was based on this not being their moment. The event is for the fighters, not them. He says whatever Hearn and his sidekick Smith had to say was “completely irrelevant” and “time-wasting.” He wasn’t going to let them blabber away, saying nonsense.
“He will not go 12 rounds. I will stop this boy. I will knock him out. I will do everything in my power to make sure that he does not see that 12th round,” said Chris Eubank Jr. to iFL TV, making his prediction for his fight with Conor Benn on Saturday night.
“It’s all irrelevant, the talk. It’s just about what’s going to happen. Just time-wasting, completely irrelevant,” said Eubank Jr. about him shutting down promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Smith during the final press conference today, not allowing them to speak when they were attempting to give speeches in front of the media.
No one really seemed to care that Hearn didn’t get his time to talk up Benn’s chances in the fight, and put everyone to sleep at a press conference. Hearn was like a third wheel, and not necessary. Frank Smith even less so.
“Eddie was never going to be able to talk during the press conference. So, he thought he was going to be smart and funny to bring in Frank Smith, who nobody knows outside of the boxing community, to try and get a few words in, like that was ever going to happen. It’s just a waste of time.”
You can’t blame Eubank Jr. for shutting down Hearn & Frank, because they were going to try and make Conor Benn look heroic, creating a cartoon character that has nothing to do with real life. Fans on social media were pleased by Eubank Jr’s deed, shutting them up so they wouldn’t have to listen to their long-winded, rehearsed speeches.
Bet Blame
“The weasel weaseled his way out of the bet again, even when I made it sweeter for him,” said Eubank Jr. about Hearn choosing not to accept his £900,000 bet on the outcome of his fight with Benn. “He can’t just come out and say it, ‘I don’t want to bet. I’m scared. I’m afraid you’re going to win and I’m going to lose £900,000.’ That’s the reason he doesn’t want to bet. Not because of any fine or any backlash from the board.
“If he cared about the board, he wouldn’t have done what he did in the first fight, trying to hide two drug tests and trying to push a fight through after his fighter [Conor Benn] got caught.”
